Hartford’s move into the 21st Century got a boost with some fresh news this week.

The Verizon 4G Cell Tower planned for the west side of Dick Hill Rd expects construction to start next month with a completion date expected by mid 2017.

The Hudson Valley Internet Tower on Shine Hill is almost complete and will be online very soon. The tower has power to it and antennas are being hung. This tower works by line of sight so if you can see it, you can subscribe for internet from it. If you cannot see it, maybe your roof top can?

The snow fort accident that killed a boy in Greenwich has led to a safety program in nearby Hartford.

Hartford firefighters have always brought a firetruck to the Hartford Elementary School so that students can enjoy climbing on it and exploring it. The event is used to give them fire safety information.

Now, town plow drivers will also bring a plow truck to the school, Supervisor Dana Haff said.

“We’ll let them sit in the truck and we’ll tell them about plow safety,” he said. “We never would’ve thought of this without (the Greenwich) tragedy.”

The lesson will include emphasizing that children should play far from plow trucks.

“Stay away, because these things can take down mailboxes,” Haff said.

Hartford’s Veteran’s Day ceremony started at Monument Square on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month with the ringing of church bells, Boy Scout Troop 40 flag ceremony, and the Ft. Ann American Legion post prayer. The recognition of our Veterans helps to make Hartford a special place.

This Saturday will be pretty busy in Hartford with three events;
1) Hartford Pta Vendor Fair in the school gymcafetorium 10am-4pm. 2) Haynes House of Hope – Hospice basket raffle at the Hartford Firehouse doors open 11am with winning ticket drawing starting at 1pm. 3) Methodist Church Turkey Supper eat in or take out 4pm – 630 pm.

The construction work on County Route 30 has had a delay in the completion. Washington County DPW now anticipates that the road will be reopened by Nov 18th.

Hartford Greenlight a Vet Program.
GREENLIGHT A VET WITH A FREE BULB
America’s veterans are some of our nation’s bravest, hardest-working men and women. However, it is often hard for our community to show them the appreciation they deserve.
When they are back home and out of uniform, they are more camouflaged than ever. Greenlight A Vet is a national campaign to establish visible local support for our veterans and to help them transition back into civilian life.
Please go to the Hartford Town Clerk’s office, Curt’s Auto Body, or The Hartford Tavern and get a free bulb while supplies last. Place it on your porch or somewhere visible and turn it on for the month of November.
These 48 bulbs have been donated by a Hartford Veteran and I have divided them up for distribution.
Once these bulbs are gone, there are more available locally at a steep discount from the Gibson Hardware store.
